AGAIN, WHAT I DO AS ARCHITECT IS ARCHITECTURE

" Friday evening, October 26, 2018, I presented at l’ESCAUT a spatially-split projection-in-loop and, by means of exhibition, live action and spoken word within that setup, some content out of my production as free architect with focus on what I call the degree zero of architecture

of matter to me most in that layered performance only shown once since, was not production of content; though to my experience never avoidable. But instead retrieval of it in intelligible patterns through acts of reframing, capturing, reiterating, and documenting. What was being reframed that evening and captured etcetera as essence and consequence, was a statement I had whispered almost ten years earlier close-up into a video-camera and looped: “what I do as architect is architecture” "

 

 

" the architect of my what-I-do-as-architect-is-architecture-statement, who for ever challenges a-priori regarding architecture and architectural practice, can be understood as format of architect that marshals against architecture as fixed content (if I may use here a parallel with David Joselit in After Art, 2013 on the notion of format that marshals against that of fixed content)

why, why not, how, with that underlying hypothesis in mind, take then what is in se an only once work as described above, and work it meaningfully into an act (a piece) that I can recreate more than once, with openness, in truth, intensity and honesty?

my residency at l’ESCAUT 2021 will run through 4 consecutive work-stages of working myself into that question / working myself out of it "

" vendredi soir, 26 octobre 2018, j'ai présenté à l'ESCAUT une projection en boucle spatialement fractionnée et dans ce dispositif, par le biais d'une exposition, d'une action en direct et de la parole , un certain contenu de ma production en tant qu'architecte libre avec un accent sur ce que j'appelle le degré zéro de l'architecture 

le plus important pour moi, c'est que cette performance multi-couches qui n'a été montrée qu'une seule fois depuis, n'était pas une production de contenu ; bien que, d'après mon expérience, elle n'ait jamais pu être évitée. Mais plutôt une extraction de contenu dans des modèles intelligibles par des actes de recadrage, de capture, de répétition et de documentation. Ce qui était recadré ce soir-là et capturé, entre autres, comme essence et conséquence, était une déclaration que j'avais chuchotée presque dix ans plus tôt en gros plan dans une caméra vidéo et mise en boucle : "ce que je fais en tant qu'architecte, c'est de l'architecture" "

 

 

 

" l'architecte de ma déclaration "ce que je fais en tant qu'architecte est architecture", qui remet en question a priori l'architecture et la pratique architecturale, peut être compris comme un format d'architecte qui s’oppose à l'architecture en tant que contenu fixe (si je peux utiliser ici un parallèle avec David Joselit dans After Art, 2013 sur la notion de format qui s'oppose à celle de contenu fixe) 

pourquoi, pourquoi pas, comment, avec cette hypothèse sous-jacente à l'esprit, prendre alors ce qui est en soi une œuvre unique comme décrit ci-dessus, et la travailler de manière significative en un acte (une pièce) que je peux recréer plus d'une fois, avec ouverture, vérité, intensité et honnêteté ?
