Presentatie van het 1e hoofdstuk: Het Oester Orakel

 

Het artistieke onderzoek belicht het verband tussen ecologie en economie op basis van het fenomeen Køkkenmødding. Deze geologische formatie is het resultaat van een langdurig proces van het beheren van schelpdierafval en kan worden gezien als een vorm van onbewuste, langzame, collectieve architectuur. In het centrum wordt de schelp, bestudeerd in zijn biologische en symbolische dimensies, de hoofdrolspeler van het werk. Als luxeproduct of basisvoedsel, als schelpengeld en als object van verschillende vormen van verzamelingen, belichaamt de schelp verschillende ideeën en waarden.

Deze ruimtelijke installatie met video's gebruikt de architecturale interventie van Jan van Schaik en Olivia Lennon in de ruimte van L'Escaut. Het doet de symmetrie herleven en breekt deze tegelijkertijd. De schelpen nemen de ruimte in en confronteren deze met hun symmetrische maar ook onregelmatige vormen.

The artistic research highlights the link between ecology and economy based on a phenomenon called Køkkenmødding. This geological formation is the result of a long-term process of managing shellfish waste, and can be seen as a form of unconscious, slow, collective architecture. At the centre, the shell, studied in its biological and symbolic dimensions, becomes the main protagonist of the work. As a luxury product or a staple food, as shell money and as an object of various forms of collections, they embody different ideas of value.

 

This spatial installation with videos refers to Jan van Schaik and Olivia Lennon's intervention in the space of L'Escaut. It revives its symmetry, while at the same time breaking it. The shells occupy the space and confront it with their superficially symmetrical but irregular shapes.
