THE RED BOX - 2ème itération
THE RED BOX is an ongoing collaboration between artist/architect duo Olivia Lennon and Jan van Schaik. In April 2024 they designed and installed a set and performance reviving and interrogating the architecture and culture of the 1910’s industrial warehouse that houses the L’Escaut collaborative – janvanschaik.com/the-red-box.
Over the course of a year, artists Leonor Gomez et Arthur Jules, Darren Roshier, Lisa Hoffmann, Marco Schröder, and Gérard Béthume, have installed works that respond to this set – while Lennon and van Schaik continued the project’s development from their base in Australia.
For the 2025 Art Brussels OFF Programme, Lennon and van Schaik will return to L’Escaut for the second iteration of THE RED BOX from the 25th until the 27th of April. In this significant development of their collaborative project they will respond to their own set, and to the works that have since responded to it, by installing a series of hybrid architecture/character objects that embody the trajectory and development of the project, and all of its related processes to date.
THE RED BOX est une collaboration entre le duo d'artistes/architectes Olivia Lennon et Jan van Schaik. En avril 2024, ils ont conçu et installé un décor ainsi qu'une performance qui revitalisaient et interrogeaient l'architecture et la culture de l'entrepôt industriel des années 1910 qui abrite désormais la coopérative de L’Escaut – janvanschaik.com/the-red-box.
Pendant un an, les artistes Leonor Gomez et Arthur Jules, Darren Roshier, Lisa Hoffmann, Marco Schröder et Gérard Béthume ont installé des œuvres en réponse à ce décor – tandis que Lennon et van Schaik poursuivaient le développement de leur projet depuis leur base en Australie.
A l'occasion de l'évènement Art Brussels OFF Programme, Lennon et van Schaik reviendront à L’Escaut pour la deuxième itération de THE RED BOX qui aura lieu du 25 au 27 avril 2025. Dans ce développement majeur de leur projet collaboratif, ils répondront à leur propre décor, ainsi qu'aux œuvres qui y ont depuis été installées. Ils présenteront une série d'objets hybrides alliant architecture et personnages qui incarnent la trajectoire et le développement du projet, ainsi que tous les processus liés jusqu'à ce jour.
THE RED BOX is een samenwerking tussen kunstenaars-architectenduo Olivia Lennon en Jan van Schaik. In april 2024 ontwierpen en installeerden ze een set en performance die de architectuur en cultuur van het industriële pakhuis uit 1910 waarin nu de coöperatie L'Escaut is gevestigd, nieuw leven inblazen en ondervragen - janvanschaik.com/the-red-box.
Een jaar lang installeerden kunstenaars Leonor Gomez en Arthur Jules, Darren Roshier, Lisa Hoffmann, Marco Schröder en Gérard Béthume werken in reactie op deze setting - terwijl Lennon en van Schaik hun project verder ontwikkelden vanuit hun basis in Australië.
In het kader van het OFF-programma van Art Brussels keren Lennon en van Schaik terug naar L'Escaut voor de tweede editie van THE RED BOX, die plaatsvindt van 25 tot 27 april 2025. In deze belangrijke ontwikkeling van hun samenwerkingsproject zullen ze reageren op hun eigen setting en op de werken die er sindsdien zijn geïnstalleerd. Ze zullen een reeks hybride objecten presenteren die architectuur en personages combineren en die het traject en de ontwikkeling van het project en alle processen die tot nu toe hebben plaatsgevonden, belichamen.
